Every piece is handcrafted in our workshop in Shelby, Ohio. We are a small, owner-operated shop, not a mass manufacturer. When you order from us, a real craftsperson builds your piece by hand.
Each product listing includes the available size options with their exact dimensions. Measure your space carefully before ordering. If you are between sizes or unsure, contact us and we can help you decide or quote a custom size.
Listed dimensions are the target size. Because we work with natural wood, there can be slight variation from piece to piece, especially with live-edge slabs where the natural edge means width varies along the length of the board. If you need a precise fit, let us know and we will work to match it as closely as possible.
We work with a wide range of domestic and exotic hardwoods including Black Walnut, Hard Maple, Spalted Maple, White Oak, Cherry, Poplar, Pine, Purple Heart, Yellow Heart (Pau Amarello), and more. The species available for each product are listed on the product page. Contact us if you are looking for a specific species not shown.
Yes. Our hardwood slabs and blanks are kiln-dried to reduce moisture content, which minimizes warping and cracking over time. This is especially important for cutting boards, shelves, and furniture that will be used in climate-controlled interiors.
Food-contact items such as cutting boards and charcuterie boards are finished with food-grade mineral oil and conditioner. Other products use stains and sealers appropriate for their intended use. The finish type is noted on each product listing. If you have a specific concern, ask us before ordering.
Stain options vary by product but commonly include Dark Walnut, Weathered Grey, English Chestnut, Colonial Maple, Red Mahogany, Ipswich Pine, White Wash, Natural, and Black. Available colors are shown as selectable options on each product page. If you want a color not listed, contact us to discuss what is possible.

Cancellations may be possible if production has not yet begun. Contact us as soon as possible at nate@stumpscustomwood.com or call 419-982-4682. Once a piece is in production, cancellation may not be possible as materials and labor have already been committed to your order.
Keep wood away from prolonged direct sunlight, extreme heat sources, and standing water. Wipe spills promptly with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. For cutting boards and food-contact surfaces, re-apply food-grade mineral oil periodically to keep the wood conditioned and protected.
No. Dishwashers expose wood to prolonged heat and moisture that will cause warping, cracking, and finish damage. Hand-wash only with mild soap and warm water, then dry immediately and stand upright to air dry completely before storing flat.
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or anything with bleach. If the finish dulls over time, a light application of furniture wax or appropriate wood conditioner can restore its appearance. Contact us if you need specific care advice for your piece.
Hardware inclusion varies by product. Check the product listing for details. Some items such as floating shelves include mounting brackets, while others may require standard wall anchors and screws available at any hardware store. If you are unsure, contact us before ordering.
Some larger pieces such as the toddler bed and blanket rack ship in multiple pieces for safe transport and are assembled with basic hardware. Assembly instructions are included with your order. Contact us if you have questions during setup.
Wood is a natural material and every piece has its own unique grain, figure, and character. Product photos show representative examples. Your piece will be similar in style and finish but will have its own natural variation, which is part of what makes handmade wood products special and one of a kind.
For complex custom orders, we may be able to provide a digital proof or photo of the wood before finishing. Contact us to discuss your project and we will let you know what is possible.
